The Design Competition involves teams of two students, both of whom must be high school freshmen, sophomores, or juniors at the time of the competition. Each team will design and build a vehicle that will, under its own power, climb a sloped ramp, knock over a flag at the top of the ramp, and sustain its position against an opposing vehicle.

The Great Moonbuggy Race held annually at the NASAshall Space Center in Huntsville, AL. This is an internationals race and It has a college and a high school division. This year it will be held 25-27 April. There is no entry fee for this event.
Lastly is the Ten80 Education NASCAR racing Challenge using RC race cars to teach math and science.
The International Human Powered Submarine Race at the Caderock Naval Research Facility in Bethesda, MD. This event occurs every two years on the odd numbered years. It is a little pricey with a $1205 entry fee but Botball was $2300. However, you must have people scuba certified and still have to build the sub. High school and college compete together and high schools frequently win the top awards.
